CURRENTLINER....an Attempt...to Enlighten!!

Dear Readers,
We are elated to bring forth this issue of our magazine, CURRENTLINER, to the hands of well-aware group of students, which we strongly believe are going to create our strong subscription base in the future.

As the name suggests, it’s not difficult to conjecture the mission of the magazine. It’s the mission of CURRENTLINER to deliver a cargo load of current affairs relevant to the preparation of Civil Services Examination and other such competitive tests where such current awareness is indispensable.

Vision has been activated by the sorry state of materials available in the market pertaining to current affairs. Majority of such stuff are thrown in the market without any discretionary eye and are invariably bad. The basic purpose is to confuse the subscribers as to what constitutes the real matter for current affairs. These magazines and journals fail miserably on two accounts viz. first, poor and vague content presentation and second, over flooding of irrelevant facts and jargons. The team of this magazine conducted a survey over sample of sufficient number of such subscribers, aspiring for various competitive examinations such as union commission and state commissions and others, over a long period. The result of this survey was not so encouraging in a way that all (almost) such stuff are redundant and should be discontinued soon as possible. The significant points that came out regarding such matters are outlined as following:

1).Most of monthly magazines don’t have a clear cut goal regarding content. That is why these end up being distorted image of the self every passing month.
2). Current affairs and the stuff contained by it is defined as very narrow resulting into the inadequate and insufficient matters both qualitatively and quantitively.
3). The subject matter of current awareness is treated as isolated from the core subject matter of the general studies.
As a consequence, the inherent connection between these two spheres of knowledge is seldom established which inhibits fostering a strong foundation for both. Current can be termed as the applied portion of the core subject matter of general studies viz. economics, polity, general science, environment and ecology, history, geography et al and the current affairs matter should be presented in a manner so as to develop a consistent knowledge domain with the core concepts. Indeed current events and core subject concepts are so intricately interwoven into each other that they complement each other and isolated treatment of one from other is hardly commendable as most of the magazines try to do.
4). As regards to language pattern, the state is even more pitiable for almost all such magazines and periodicals available on the newsstand. The people associated with such publications are ill equipped with linguistic efficiency and the finer nuances of presentable language so as to cater to the needs of readers pertaining to the right content with right comprehension. Their language usage and the content to be presented are so disjoint that sometimes readers feel lost while going through such a piece of article and at last they are often inconclusive as to what the article is trying to convey. This kind of stuff not only injures the knowledge gathering capacity but also impairs the language acquisition propensity of readers. And consequently the long association with such magazines renders the readers unfit in both knowledge gathering and knowledge expressing spheres.
5). With reference to content one of the most striking observations has been the lack of continuity and conviction while creating such matters. This lack of depth happens again due to the inexperience and shortsightedness of people associated with. They don’t have much discretion concerning the sources of matter at hand and they just copy paste from various and inadequate sources giving the piece an inconsistent, vague and sometimes intimidating form creating an instant repulsion in the readers about going ahead with such stuff.

Besides these, there have been a plethora of other lacunae noticed during the above exercise and a vision ignited after the brainstorming to get rid of above pitfalls. This was in this way that the notion of this magazine came about. Hidden in the aforementioned clear-cut outcomes of the study conducted are the inspiring elements of the magazine. A close scrutiny of above conclusions one can easily envisage the idea of CURRENTLINER. But to reassert with no ambiguity, our vision is to create a medium or culture of presentation of current matter in a way to make a holistic sphere of core concepts and latest news and updating the understanding of the subjects to the most recent times. The presentation of such matter would be the most contemplated aim with regards to two dimensions viz. visual and linguistic in a manner to provide a content-language coordination with a pleasant feel to the eye too. The journey of the readers would be smooth and pleasing, and of course enlightening. The efficacy of this magazine would be noticed for sure and the same would be augmented with the continuous effort and research of the team associated with CURRENTLINER.

Objective to be attained is always more on the concrete and practical ground. What does CURRENTLINER intend to achieve by aforementioned mission and vision? Being a holistic current awareness monthly it intends to impart an authentic platform to the aspirants of various competitive examinations in particular and other sections of students in general. It has been generally noticed that students after consulting with various such periodicals are not so conclusive about the subject matter and thereby there is lack of conviction in expressing such matters in the examinations or otherwise. In nutshell, to fill the student’s mind with complete glimpse of the subject matter with their current updates in a view to their authentic performance, in the examinations and other forums, is the objective of CURRENTLINER. And it will live up to it’s expectations every ounce.

Furthermore, since it’s only inception of our endeavor, we don’t claim to be perfect in our claims and the consequent product, the CURRENTLINER. Feedbacks and suggestions from the coveted readers of this magazine is heartily invited and if found tempting, would be incorporated in the coming issues.
